Doritos with Avery Schreiber

Avery Schreiber stars in this Doritos commercial from the 1970’s. The chips were introduced at the time by Frito-Lay in 1964 (now owned by Pepsico). The phrase at the time was that they “taste as good as they crunch”. Doritos actually originated n a restaurant in Disneyland.

Avery was known for his bushy mustache and funny reactions in comedic situations.Schreiber starred in his own special for ABC in 1973 called The Burns and Schreiber Comedy Hour. He was also a frequent guest in Chico and the Man, Match Game, and the Muppet Show. He also played the role of Captain Manzini in the short-lived sitcom My Mother The Car.

Avery died in 1994 from a heart attack from complications of diabetes. He did survive a triple bypass surgery, he then had another heart attack and died.  He was 66.

Life Cereal Mikey

Mikey was a played by John Gilchrist for Quaker Oat’s Life cereal. The ad campaign was so successful it ran for 12 years starting in 1972. The ad won a Clio Award in 1974 and was rated number ten of the most remembered commercials by TV Guide. John Gilchrist has no memory of recording the commercial, he was three years old when it was recorded. He is now the director of media sales for MSG Network. Do you remember the urban legend that he died after eating Pop Rocks and drinking a carbonated soft drink. The TV show Mythbusters debunked the story. They tried to contact John Gilchrist but he never returned their calls.

Things Go Better With Coca Cola

In 1964 Coca-Cola tapped the Limelighters for their rendition of Things Go Better With Coca Cola. The Limelighters were a popular folk music group that signed with RCA Victor but never had any chart success.
The comic/character actor playing the tall, thin mover was Mr.Will B.Able. Mr.Able was a cast member of the 1955- 1956 version of ABC TV’sSuper Circus! and he was one of the cast members of the famous prince Street Players

Luke and Laura’s Wedding

In 1978 General Hospital was close to cancellation ABC hired Gloria Monty as the new executive producer a to attract a younger audience. A drunken Luke Spencer raped Laura Spencer who then falls in love with him. Critics complained of the forced seduction as the plot. Luke and Laura became what was known as a supercouple to the soap opera world.



On November 17, 1981 the fictional couple were united and was watched by over 30 million viewers and remains to this day the highest rated hour in American soap opera history.

Ralph Hinkley is a Los Angeles public school teacher hates wearing the red costume that gives him superhuman abilities.  There is one problem, Ralph lost the instruction manual and has to learn the abilities often times by accident.

1969 Lincoln Mercury Cougar

The Mercury Cougar introduced in 1967 was Mercury’s pony or muscle car built off the Ford Mustang. For many years Mercury was identified as “at the sign of the cat” as seen in this commercial.

California Raisins Commercial 1986

A claymation commercial made for the California Raisin Advisory Board in 1986 to the 1968 hit by Marvin Gaye I Heard It Through The Grapvine. The commercials became wildly successful and spun off many TV specials like Meet The Raisins in 1986. They eventually became the mascots to Post Raisin Bran on packaging and commercials.
