Even choosing a costume became a family negotiation. D.J. wanted to be the Terminator. Roseanne wanted Alfalfa from The Little Rascals. Their compromise? The Alfalfanator! One wants to save the future. The other just wants to impress Darla.

And the costumes were only the beginning. In “Boo!”—the show’s first Halloween episode, which aired on October 31, 1989—the Conners turned their home into the Tunnel of Terror. Most people put a pumpkin on the porch. This family gave the neighborhood an entire attraction.

That was the fun of Halloween on Roseanne. The parents were just as excited as the kids, everybody got involved, and you never knew who was going to get the last laugh.
