Life Cereal Mikey

Mikey was a played by John Gilchrist for Quaker Oat’s Life cereal. The ad campaign was so successful it ran for 12 years starting in 1972. The ad won a Clio Award in 1974 and was rated number ten of the most remembered commercials by TV Guide. John Gilchrist has no memory of recording the commercial, he was three years old when it was recorded. He is now the director of media sales for MSG Network. Do you remember the urban legend that he died after eating Pop Rocks and drinking a carbonated soft drink. The TV show Mythbusters debunked the story. They tried to contact John Gilchrist but he never returned their calls.

Farrah Fawcett Shampoo

Farrah Fawcett Shampoo was introduced by Fabrege Inc. from the late 70’s through the mid 80’s. This commercial was from 1978. The shampoo was part of an entire line of Farah Fawcett hair care products.

The back of the Farah Fawcett Shampoo bottle said:
“I guess my hair is my signature. That’s why I developed this special shampoo with Fabrege to keep hair looking fresh and wholesome all the time. There are B vitamins, Minerals (calcium, copper, zinc) natural to all hair. Keratin, hair’s own protein. Plus garden herbs. It’s like an energy bath for hair. With gentle cleansers that help hair maintain its vitality even if you shampoo every day. My hair really looks softer, shinier and livelier. If you want your hair to be your signature too, try it. And try my Creme Rinse/Conditioner to make hair behave right away. It’s so simple”. It was then signed Farrah Fawcett

Ball Buster Game

I just don’t know how this game didn’t become a classic! LOL.  Players move around groups of playing pieces set up similarly to checkers. Each piece consists of a plastic ball mounted on a long springy stem which is mounted on a peg which fits into holes in the board. Players can attack an opponents piece by pulling back on one of their own adjacent pieces and releasing it, causing the plastic balls to collide.

Froot Loops Bird Bot Commercial

Fruit Loops were introduced in 1962 and originally there were  there were red, orange, and yellow loops, the color of Toucan Sam’s nose.  There is no fruit in Froot Loops and the cereal is just one flavor, not a combination of the individual fruit flavors as many think.

Toucan Sam’s  catch phrases were “Follow my nose! For the fruity taste that shows!” or “Follow my nose! It always knows!”
