Amos and Andy was a radio show from 1928 until 1960. The television series ran on CBS from 1951 to 1953 and lived on in reruns from 1954 to 1966. Amos ‘n Andy was the first U.S. television program with an all-black cast.
Actress Deana Dietrich was Mother Nature Chiffon Commercials produced by the D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles advertising agency from the 1970’s and into the 1980’s. Mother Nature would usually say “my delicious butter” and voice actor Mason Adams would tell her “That’s Chiffon margarine, not butter … Chiffon’s so delicious it fooled even you, Mother Nature” which she would reply ” It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature,” followed by thunder and lightning. Once in a while, the agency would change it up to elephants charging. The commercial would end with a jingle “If you think it’s butter, but it’s not: it’s Chiffon.”
Room 222 was an comedy drama that aired on ABC from September 17, 1969 thru January 11, 1974. The show won three Emmy Awards. Sadly the only main character that has passed at this writing was actor Lloyd Haynes who played the role of Mr. Pete Dixon. He was 52 and died of lung cancer on December 31, 1986.
In a 1982 Tonight Show skit reminiscent of the old Abbott and Costello ‘Who’s On First?’ routine, Johnny Carson plays a befuddled Ronald Reagan being briefed by Jim Baker.
The 1972 Levi commercial Good Morning World or Laughing Levi’s commercial jingles is one of those songs that will get stuck in your head for sure! The jingle is based on The Fendermen’s 1960 hit Mule Skinner Blues which can be heard here:
The stop action video shows a young teen boy in a variety of colored jeans and shirts from Levi’s, from traditional blue to brown and red. The quality of the video, the best that is available online has been color corrected from the faded film stock.
There isn’t much information on the jingle or the commercial itself. One source says the jingle and commercial was produced by Mike Koelker from the Mad Man advertising team of Foote, Cone & Belding of San Francisco.
Bret Lahr starred in a variety of characters for Lay’s Potato Chips in the 1960’s. Lahr you may remember was the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz. Today we would look at this clip as being racist but in the 1960’s it was perfectly acceptable.
Virginia Slims were introduced in 1968 marketed to young women with
the slogan You’ve Come A Long Way Baby. The cigarette much narrower and
longer “tailored for the woman’s hand” according to the commercial.
