The Super Bowl Shuffle

The Super Bowl Shuffle is a rap song performed by the Chicago Bears. The song was released a month before Super Bowl XX and actually made it as high as #41 on the Billboard hot 100 and sold over a half a million copies. This made the Chicago Bears is the only American professional team to have a hit single. The song was nominated for a Grammy but lost to Kiss.

The song made over $300,000 which was donated to the Chicago Community Trust to help needy families in the Chicago area with clothing and food.

The Bears did go on to win the Super Bowl defeating the New England Patriots by a score of 46 to 10.

Chesterfield 101 A Silly Milimeter Longer

In 1967 the rage in cigarettes was to make them longer. Chesterfield was one of the biggest brands at the time and they countered with the “Silly Millimeter Longer” as the brand and catch phrase. Chesterfield is named for Chesterfield County Virginia where much of their tobacco was grown. The brand is still made today but is mostly popular in Europe.

SNLs Coffee Talk

Linda Richman’s (Mike Myers) hero was Barbra Streisand. She constantly “dedicated” the show to her, often claiming her to be the greatest actress in all of history. In what could be considered to be the sketch’s most memorable moment, Myers was joined by two special guests Madonna and Roseanne Barr as two other Jewish women (and they were authentic, take my word!). They discussed Streisand’s movie, The Prince of Tides, on the show. Near the end of the sketch, the women compared Barbra to “buttah”-and suddenly, a voice announced, “All this talk about food, I’m getting hungry, girls.” It was Streisand herself in a surprise appearance; none of the actors had any idea that she was to appear. All three managed to remain in character as the audience went wild. Though Streisand only stayed long enough to give each character a kiss and wave to the audience, the moment has become one of the most memorable in the show’s history.

Archie Bunker Alone

Archie Bunker’s Place was a reasonably successful continuation of All In The Family. Jean Stapleton, who played Archie’s wife (Edith), appeared in six episodes before deciding to leave the show. The show’s writers dealt with her departure by making Archie a widower. This is the conclusion of a special one-hour episode from December 1980 in which Archie had to deal with Edith’s death. Warning: It’s a tear-jerker.

Michael Landon Final Tonight Show Appearance

In April 1991, TV icon Michael Landon was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer. A month later, on May 9, 1991, Landon was in high spirits when he made a guest appearance on The Tonight Show. He died seven weeks later at the age of 54. I apologize for the poor quality of the clip, but it’s worth watching.
